Ragwort, Senecio jacobaea, with ‘jacobaea‘ meaning ‘pertaining to James’. The saint was the patron of pilgrims and the plant was used to cure sores and ulcers.

It’s changed its scientific name now to Jacobaea vulgaris along with some of the other Senecio species, while others such as Oxford Ragwort & Groundsel remain in the genus Senecio. Often difficult to keep up with all the changes in nomenclature!
